What does the course involve?
The course is very flexible and can be
spread over as long or as short a period
as you like. The theory part involves the child reading through the manual a chapter at a time. after working through the knowledge reviews we then watch a DVD that explains the chapter in more detail. It also shows the child what he/she will learn in the pool. We then work through any issues the child may have. The session finishes off with a mini test of 10 question. Once again depending on the age or ability of the child we may do one or two chapters per session. Once we have completed the knowledge reviews the next step is to go to the pool and start the fun part - diving !! In the pool we learn and practice the basic skills required before we can go diving. All groups are kept
small, usually a maximum of 4 people, ensuring personal attention at all
times. (See profiles of our instructors
to get a feel of how we will look after
you). If you are still unsure of any aspects
of the course then our instructors are
available to assist during the week if
you need it.
The second week end will involve a trip to the lake on Saturday and Sunday where we can practice the skills you have learned and have an enjoyable dive at the same time !
It is also very important to stress at this point that not only are our groups kept small, usually no more than 4 in a group, but that we use half of a very large 33m long pool. This is very important to know, as learning to dive involves much more than simply kneeling on the bottom of a small pool in a large group and doing a few exercises. It is vital that you have time and room to swim around and practice the most important skill in diving - good buoyancy control. You can't do that in a small or crowded pool.
